Daniel Elias Martin Herranz

Chief Science Officer | Biomarker R&D | IVDs | Epigenetics of Ageing | Computational Biology

Dani did his undergrad in Biotechnology at the University of Salamanca (Spain) and his PhD in Computational Biology at the University of Cambridge / EBI (UK).

During the PhD, he had the pleasure to work on the molecular mechanisms of the epigenetic ageing clock with Professor Dame Janet Thornton and Professor Wolf Reik. Driven by the need to make diagnostic technologies more actionable and accessible, he co-founded Hurdle.

As Chief Science Officer at Hurdle, Dani has led the development of novel diagnostics, including the first NGS saliva-based epigenetic clock, the first CE-marked saliva-based COVID PCR test and the first saliva-based epigenetic biomarker for chronic inflammation. At Hurdle, Dani works closely with Biotech and Pharma companies as part of their biomarker strategy, from consumer and digital health applications to companion diagnostics.

Dani is passionate about democratising access to the latest biomarker technologies to ensure the healthy ageing of our societies.
